AlPlanta - History
To boost and exploit modern biotechnology mainly in the field of small crops Rhineland-Palatinate established the Centrum Grüne Gentechnik (CGG) - today known under the name of "AlPlanta - Institute for Plant Research" in 1996. The institute´s mission is to do research and development in the field of plant biotechnology. AlPlanta understands itself as a link between basic research and industrial application. It has established collaborations with universities and research institutes all over the world as well as co-operations with small and middle sized companies (SMEs) in the sectora of agriculture and biotechnology. Together with the industrial co-operations comes the expectation to enable long-term development stimuli to support the economic power of the SMEs.

December 1996
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Traffic, Agriculture and Viticulture of Rhineland-Palatinate establishes the Centrum Grüne Gentechnik (CGG).
June 1997
The CGG becomes part of the Staatliche Lehr- und Forschungsanstalt (State Education Center), today known under the name
"Dienstleistungszentrum Ländlicher Raum Rheinpfalz".
August 1999
The Frauenhofer Managementgesellschaft evaluates the CGG positively and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Traffic, Agriculture and Viticulture decides to further strengthen the Centre.
May 2003
Laying of the foundation stone for the new building of the CGG.
December 2004
Relocation of the CGG into the new building
January 2005
In the course of the reformation of the agricultural administration of Rhineland-Palatinate the RLP AgroScience GmbH is founded. The company is an amalgation of the CGG and the department of Ecology of the former State Education Centre Neustadt.
Mai 2005
The CGG is re-named to "AlPlanta - Institute for Plant Research.
