Ribgrass mosaic tobamovirus

A crucifer tobamovirus has been isolated from Impatiens New Guinea plants. The virus has been fully sequenced, and, based on sequence comparisons, was given the name Ribgrass mosaic virus isolate Impatiens (RMV-Imp). A full-length infectious clone of RMV-Imp was constructed under the control of the 35S promoter, and is currently assassed for its potential as viral vector for the expression of foreign genes. The infectious clone is also used to determine the putative functions of small viral-encoded proteins, and for the better understanding of the molecular biology of tobamoviruses.
